ACUTE DIARRHEA RESEARCH PROJECT, BHAKTAPUR, NEPAL


Collaboration between Tribhuwan University, Institute of Medicine, department of child health, University of Bergen, Centre for International Health and the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, India

The research project will evaluate zinc and zinc in combination with vitamin A as treatment for acute diarrhea in children from 6 to 36 months of age. The first children were enrolled on June 15, 1998 and the project is supposed to finish in August 2000. More than 1800 children will be included in this study.


The project has "Siddhi Memorial Hospital" as base for its activities. At this site just outside Bhaktapur, Shiam Dhoubhdel has provided excellent facilities for clinical and laboratory work

This hospital is built in the memory of his 4 year old son Shiddi who died in a tragic traffic accident near this location.
